| | 2008-12-14 12:26:05 | | | Chanan Hanspal "It's Only Just A Garden" Original / Yam Who? Rework | Epic orchestral intro to the soul jazz grooves featuring Imaani from Incognito tearing it up on lead vocals.
Jazz guitar supremo Chanan Hanpsal has had a successful career in music working with Kylie, Geri Halliwell, Jamiroquai, Valerie Etienne, Questlove, Adam F and touring the world with 23 Skidoo. And now he has written, recorded, arranged, and produced “It’s Only Just A Garden” for Here And Now Recordings.
Imaani lead vocalist with Incognito and following in the footsteps of Carleen Anderson and Jocelyn Brown delivers the perfectly fitting lead vocals with her rich tones. It’s obvious Chanan wrote the track with her in mind.
Charlie Creed-Miles features on drums. His background as an actor saw Luc Besson cast him in the Fifth Element and then had a leading role in Gary Oldman’s Nil By Mouth. He also fronts the band North Of Ping pong. They sound like a modern day Blockheads!
Backing vocals are by Debbie French who has sung extensive with Joey Negro and also faithless, Jon Cutler, Ultra Nate and Acid Jazz group Raw Stylus.
Sarah Button has played violin on recordings Jill Scott, New Sector Movements, on many 4 Hero tracks and for Placebo too. Natalie Bonner, also on violin has, worked with Max Richter and David McAlmont amongst others.
Trumpeter Arden Hart had played and worked with Chaka Khan, James Taylor Quartet, James Mason, Massive Attack, Gwen McCrae, Take That, Brand New Heavies and many many more.
And Jane Tuff who features on clarinet has played with many bands from the Acid Jazz days on clarinet and saxophone too.
Andy Panayi is on flute. He was no stranger to Here And Now Recordings having played flute and saxophone on much of the Funkanala stuff!
Yam Who? remixers of Grace Jones, Joss Stone, John Legend, Dwele, Jill Scott, Raphael Saadiq and many more flip the script creating a retro boogie masterpiece. Reverso 68 and LSB’s Pete Herebert commented “sounds like Maurice Fulton meets Atlantic Starr”
